Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala on Wednesday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving an ‘untrue and substance-less’ speech from the ramparts of Red Fort on the occasion of 72nd Independence Day of India.
“PM Modi’s last speech on Independence Day proved to be shallow. There was no substance, he didn’t speak on corruption of Rafale & Vyapam, Chhattisgarh PDS scam, Chinese encroachment in Doklam & other areas or atmosphere of hatred created in the nation,” Surjewala told media in New Delhi today.
This was PM Modi’s last speech from the Red Fort before the country goes into polls next year. Congress party has been pressing for a statement from the prime minister on the alleged scam in the Rafale deal with France, along with several other graft allegations.
Alleging that claims made by PM Modi in his speech were untrue, Surjewala said that PM Modi should have talked about something that could help the common folk. “He should have spoken the truth in his last speech. Mann ki baat nahi kar paate, kam se kam desh ke kaam ki baat to kar paate kyunki ab acche din to aaye nahi ab is desh ko sacche din ka intezar hai aur wo tab aaenge jab Modi ji desh se jaaenge (He can’t talk about what is in his heart, at least he should talk about something worthwhile for the people of the country because now there is no hope for ‘achhe din’, people now await ‘sachche din’ which can only come when Modiji leaves his post),” he said.
PM Modi, in his speech today, claimed that the nation’s pace of growth has accelerated tremendously in the past four years. If we had been developing at the pace we maintained till 2013, it would have taken us over 100 years to achieve what we did in mere four years, the PM said.
